I imagine you must be so proud and inspired by your Great Aunt, I certainly consider her to be an inspiration and I hope that if I too can attain her age I will also be able to continue my community connections at the rate she does!

Hi Greg,

I am the mother of the little girl that went on the heartless hotline. I'd like to thank you for your kindness and it is much appreciated. Myself and Michelle went to see the Dentist yesterday as Triple M have decided to go ahead with Michelle's teeth being fixed after all. Thank you very much for offering to run a fun raising charity for Michelle, however, this will not be needed.

I'd like to say your support and kindness is really nice to see and we need more of this in society. Thank you again for your comment on the site.

Regards

Greetings,
I am requesting to use your name and link in a book I have written, The Volunteer Book, which has been submitted to Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City for publication. The initial press run will be 4,000, and the length of the published work is expected to be approximately 192 pages. It will sell for $14.99 primarily in North America, with some limited sales elsewhere.

The main thrust of this book is how to start, grow, and then maintain a successful volunteer program and faith-based organization will be the focus.

I would like to use the following statement under the heading "Volunteer Blogs":

http://volunteermanager.wordpress.com/ This blog is meant to be a place where you can come to discuss issues or voice opinions and even get some advice if you want any.

Thanks you.

Karin that is a really good question. Without knowing where you are based or your target group or who your volunteers would be providing service to it is difficult to offer any specific advice.

One of the things that has helped me in the past is to tailor the same role several different ways to appeal to a variety of potential volunteer source groups; for example looking for ways to present a role that appeals to men as well as younger people. For men you could look for ways that the job helped them become more active or maintain activity and create 'mateships'. For young people you could present the role as a series fo short term projects that they could embark upon with their friends.

There are lots of ways to create interest in volunteer roles among people who for the most part seem dis-interested. If you wanted to post some specifics we cold work through those on the blog if you like.

Greg

BTW - sorry for the delay in responding - have recently changed roles and haven't been checking the blog much

This is so needed. As someone trying to recruit and retain volunteers, I feel like I'm failing at both. One of the discussions we have among our core group is that the people already motivated are working with another group. So how do I get people in my community who don't already care about watershed issues to get excited enough to participate.

Greg,

I am glad I came across the blog. Have there been volunteer leaders from non-profit agencies who have connected with you? I ask because I work at a non-profit agency and we have volunteers that come to us as lead interns and I am wanting to know if it would be benefical to refer them to this blog.

I work in Los Angeles, but the agency I am refering to is nation wide.

Greg,

I was wondering if you could post a blog regarding VolunteerHub. VolunteerHub is a great online tool for Volunteer Managers to use when coordinating their volunteers! Please take a look at our website at www.volunteerhub.com, and let me know what you think!

Best regards,
Christine Litch
